A Christchurch Institution.
From humble beginnings in 2016, where then owner Joel Christian and Head Chef Hannah Cooper Grieve envisaged a modern European shared dining experience, and pioneered the ‘Trust the Chef’ shared banquet menu in Christchurch.
This style of dining was well received, far beyond their humble expectations, with The Monday Room quickly winning Restaurant of the Year in it’s first year, and featuring prominently in Cuisine Magazines review of Christchurch following the city rebuild.
Fast forward to 2018, and The Monday Room relocated to a bigger and better location at 161 High St, in the site previously occupied by the beloved Chinwag Eatthai restaurant.
In 2021, Hannah purchased The Monday Room, and to this day operates the restaurant as Chef-Owner.
Hannah has a wealth of hospitality experience. Following completion of her academic pursuits, Hannah pivoted to a career in hospitality; as a chef in some of Christchurch’s best restaurants including as the Head Chef at The Monday Room, on luxury yachts, and then as the owner-operator of Tuam St Kitchen Cafe, Central Park Cafe, along with The Monday Room Restaurant.
With a life long passion for food, Hannah has a strong focus on quality, seasonality and providing spectacular solutions for any/all dietary requirements.
Hannah thoroughly enjoys all aspects of hospitality, especially due to the fact that every single day she gets to be a part of people’s lives at times where they are truly enjoying themselves.
